Normanby Cup: Med University 5 Brisbane Irish 16
2nd Grade travelled to St Lucia last Friday night to take on last year’s winners UQ Med in a very important 4th vs 5th clash.
Both sides set down the marker early in the game with some big collisions and strong carries. Uni had a scrum feed inside the Irish 22m line and sent the ball wide and scored in the corner Med Uni 5 Irish 0.
Irish then replied with a penalty kick slotted by fullback Matt Smith. Half time Med Uni 5 Brisbane Irish 3.
Some strong runs by the Irish Number 8 Aaron Spring put Irish in a great position and scored a great try from William Read to put the away side ahead 3-8 to Irish.
The game turned into a scuffle at times but the Irish finished strong with a penalty kick and try from Matt Smith, which gave the Irish a very important away win!
Final score Med University 5 Brisbane Irish 16.
Up next for the Normanby Cup side is at home to top of the table Wests.

Pegg Cup: Brisbane Irish vs Goodna
Brisbane Irish 1st Grade welcomed 3rd place Goodna Gladiators to Everton Park State High last Saturday for an early 1.00pm Kick Off.
In perfect conditions for rugby, the Irish held the ball and put some early phases together and got in for the first score of the match by Centre William Read. Two more well-worked tries by Centre Read gave the Irish a comfortable lead with only 30mins played. Irish let Goodna back into the game with missed tackles and poor discipline to give away two late first half tries. Half time Brisbane Irish 19 Goodna 14
This would be a tough and very tight second half with both sides putting in some solid carries and tackles. Irish won a penalty just inside the Goodna half and kicked to the corner for the lineout which resulted in Irish prop Aaron Spring going over for a try. A well worked maul put the Irish in for another score minutes later with Hooker Liam Doran touching down. I final score from Spring left the score Brisbane Irish 40 Goodna 21. Up next is away to 2nd place Ipswich Rangers.
321s for the day went to:
3 Points Will Jones
2 Points William Read
1 Point Matt Smith
