After the success of last weekend spirits in the club are high for this coming Saturday the 9th of May at Hurdcotte Street, Enoggera A Grade v Beenleigh Bears - 3.00pm Last season the Beenleigh Bears were the winners of the Pegg Cup, the competitions our Reserve Grade play in. This meant they were promoted to the A Grade competition to compete for the Barber Cup. Despite this they started the season in the Pegg Cup again due to them having lost a number of players from last season and claiming to be weakened as a result. This decision was overturned and it saw them return to the top competition but heavy defeats in their first 2 games to Wynnum and Pine Rivers Boars indicated their were going to struggle this season. On Saturday however, this idea was turned on its head when a rejuvenated Bears narrowly went down at home to competition leaders Goodna by only 10 - 7. Clearly they have either done some very fast and astute recruiting or have seen a return of players from last year. Whatever the cause the Irish are now presented with a far different clash than the one expected just a week ago. In the game against Gatton A Grade showed some very good work that was frustrated by an inability to turn territory and possession into points. Despite this there is tremendous potential in the squad and continued hard work will be rewarded with points and there was definite improvement shown on Saturday which indicated we are on the right path What does this mean for Saturday? We have a rejuvenated Beenleigh side looking to take their first scalp of the season coming up against a developing Irish side keen to consolidate their position with another win and to maintain their unbeaten home record This is definitely a recipe for a fascinating clash and one not to be missed especially after a curtain raiser of Reserve Grade v Everton Park Reserve Grade v Everton Park Roosters - 1.30pm For the last 3 years Everton Park have not fielded a senior but not despite their best efforts and this year has seen the hard work pay off. Although without a victory in their 2 games so far they were against the top 2 sides in the ladder and "EP" only went down by 5 and 7 points respectively. This shows that they are goign to be a team to be reckoned with. The Irish on the other hand have a 2 and 1 record to be sitting 3rd on the ladder and are coming off the back of a 43 - 0 victory over Gatton where there was a lot to be impressed by. With a game in hand over 4th placed Pine Rivers Boars, who have the bye this weekend, a victory for the men in green will see them consolidate themselves in third spot As if all these factors weren't enough to guarantee a great clash the local derby effect and bragging rights from now until the next time these 2 sides meet on the 4th of July 3rd Grade - Bye
